🚨 Tamil Nadu Cyber Police Bust 24 “Signal Boxes” in Delhi — Digital Arrest Scam Network Exposed
The operation, led by Dr. Sandeep Mittal, IPS, ADGP, Cyber Crime Wing, and supervised by Tmt. I. Shahnaz, IPS, SP, State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre, was part of a larger investigation that began in September 2025. Earlier, the wing had seized 14 high-capacity SIM Boxes in Chennai and arrested six individuals. Further probes revealed the same network’s presence in Delhi, Bihar, and Maharashtra, leading to coordinated raids across multiple states.
During the Delhi operation, three suspects — Tarikh Alam (19), Lokesh Kumar (33), and Ashok Kumar (40) — were arrested. Forensic analysis confirmed that the seized “Signal Boxes” were remotely controlled by foreign scam compounds, which used them to impersonate police and government officers, extorting money under the pretense of “Digital Arrest.”
In just two months, Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has dismantled 44 such devices, dealing a significant blow to international cyber syndicates operating from abroad. Each device could host dozens of SIM cards, enabling thousands of scam calls daily.
Advisory to the Public:
- Do not be carried away by the promise of commission for opening bank accounts, operating SIM boxes, transporting SIM box or any electronic gadgets in disguise, etc.
- Do not panic if you receive a call claiming you're involved in a crime.Scammers often use fear tactics to pressure victims into compliance. There is no concept called Digital Arrest or Arresting online.
- Government agencies will never ask for money for any grievance reported or verification.
- Never share personal or banking details over phone or video calls, including Aadhaar, PAN, bank credentials, or OTPs.
- Avoid accepting video calls from unknown persons claiming to be officials.Scammers may impersonate officers using AI or pre-recorded videos.
- Do not download remote access apps like AnyDesk or TeamViewer when asked by unknown callers. This could give scammers control over your device.
This operation reaffirms Tamil Nadu’s leadership in technology-driven cyber policing and its commitment to dismantling cross-border scam networks threatening digital security.
